Right on the heels of its annual David Theis Award, this year honoring Sue Moretti Bodson, the Glenville Volunteer Fire Company hosted an Open House on Sunday. Neighbors came to the firehouse to learn about safety while having a little fun and enjoying some apple cider and doughnuts. The gloomy weather didn’t dissuade nearly one hundred visitors who enjoyed tours of the firehouse, learning about all the equipment used to ensure their safety.
There were hands-on demonstrations where children got to extinguish a simulated fire, with the guidance of a certified firefighter, of course.
Children laughed and played in an antique fire truck, ringing the bell, and pretending to drive the rig. Families left with memories of a fun day, along with safety instructional information, a free smoke detector, and a lapel pin in the shape of a fire engine, complete with flashing lights.
The Glenville Volunteers continue to be an important part of the community, and welcomes anyone interested in joining them. Information can be found at the company’s website, www.glenvillefire.org.
