Fleeing Bank Fraud Suspects Who Tossed Torn Up Checks from Car Face Multiple Charges

On Thursday around noon Greenwich Police in the area of Greenwich Avenue observed a vehicle suspected as being involved in a confirmed financial crime at a bank in the central Greenwich business district.

Police bike patrol officers and patrol officers working in the area attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Miko Avery Douglas, 23, of New York, NY, failed to obey officers signals and fled, traveling at a high rate of speed, disregarding traffic control signals, throwing torn up checks out the window and passing cars in a reckless manner.

The car was located shortly thereafter with its suspects having fled from the vehicle on foot.

The suspect and his co-conspirators were detained.

Investigation revealed that the suspect was conspiring with two men to commit a financial crime. A search of the vehicle revealed that the trio was in possession of two counterfeit river’s licenses bearing his co-conspirator’s photo and two counterfeit HSBC credit cards bearing names of victims.

Additionally officers located several checks that were torn and scattered throughout the vehicle.

Mr. Douglas was arrested and charged with:

Reckless Driving
Disobeying Signal of Officer
Improper Passing – Unsafe Distance
Traffic Control Signals
Failure to Obey Stop Sign
Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 2 (2 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2 (2 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2 (2 counts)
Interfering with Officer/Resisting

Mr. Douglas was able to post his $50,000 bond and has a date in Stamford Superior Court on March 10, 2023.

Also arrested was Taishaun Clements, 20, of New York, NY. He was seen throwing torn checks from the vehicle and was charged with Littering Violation, Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 2 (2 counts), Conspiracy t Commit Forgery 2 (2 counts), Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (2 counts) and Interfering with Officer/Resisting.

He was able to post his $50,000 bond and has a court date in Stamford on March 10, 2023.

The third man arrested was Joseph Goodwin, 59, of Jersey City, NJ. He was charged with:

Conspiracy to Commit Identity Theft 2 (2 counts)
Forgery 2 (2 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 2 (2 counts)
Forgery 3 (2 counts)
Conspiracy to Commit Forgery 3 (2 counts)

He was unable to post his $50,000 bond and shares the court date in Stamford on March 10,2023.
