DUI for Driver who Crashed into Parked Cars on Steamboat Rd

Diego Adrian Chica, 29, of 228 William Street in Rye Brook was arrested at about 3:15am on Sunday, May 8 following an incident on Steamboat Road.

According to a release from Greenwich Police, several officers along with the GEMS unit #1 were dispatched to the area of 600 Steamboat Road on a report of a car accident with possible injuries.

Upon arrival, officers observed that a car had struck two parked vehicles and was still at the scene. Officers located the driver standing outside his car assisting a passenger still seated inside the car.

The driver, Mr. Chica, was observed to have glassy blood shot eyes and slurred speech, in addition to the odor of alcohol on his breath. A series of field sobriety tests were initiated.

Mr. Chica failed a horizontal gaze nystagmus test and then refused the walk and turn test as well as the one-leg stand test.

He was arrested for suspicion of DUI. At the police station he was charged with Failure to Maintain a Proper Lane, No Insurance, Distracted Driving and DUI. He was able to post his $1,000 bond and assigned a court date on May 23, 2016 in Stamford Superior Court.
