On Sunday, Oct 13, around 12:30am, a Trooper assigned to Troop G- Bridgeport was patrolling I-95 southbound in the area of exit 9 in Stamford.
It was at this time that the Trooper heard the audible, rapid acceleration of a car ahead of the cruiser in the roadway and began to follow the vehicle to observe its speed.
The Trooper caught up to the observed vehicle, positively identifying it as a Volkswagen Jetta sedan.
Given this section of I-95 runs through the city of Stamford, and the posted speed limit in this area is 55 mph, the Trooper began to clock the Volkswagen’s speed in the area of exit 7 by calibrated speedometer for a distance of approximately one mile, at which point the Trooper observed speeds ranging from 97-103 mph.
Based upon these observations, the Trooper activated their emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop.
The operator complied and pulled over to the right shoulder, stopping partially in the right travel lane.

Upon approaching the vehicle, the Trooper observed the distinct odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. The operator was positively identified as Toby Tweedie, 45, of Bridgeport, by his CT operator’s license.
According to the State Police criminal information summary, Tweedie told police he was traveling from an adult entertainment club in Stamford where he had consumed several beers.
The Trooper observed that Tweedie was exhibiting signs of impairment and requested he submit to Standardized Field Sobriety Testing.
Tweedie failed to perform field sobriety tests to standard and was arrested. While en route to Troop G, police said Mr. Tweedie fell asleep and began snoring.
He was charged with Reckless Driving and Operation of a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs.
Tweedie was later released from custody on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear at Stamford Superior Court on Nov 13, 2024.
