After receiving a complaint on Thursday of an unknown white substance flowing in a stream behind a home at 68 Sound Beach Ave, Greenwich Police traced the substance back to a home under construction at 8 Durkin Place.
According to a statement issued on Friday by Lt. Kraig Gray, storm drains on that property were covered in a white substance and it was obvious that workers had dumped some construction materials into the drain that was flowing toward Binney Park.
Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), Greenwich Fire Dept and Greenwich Wetlands officials responded to the scene. Per Connecticut DEEP, the substance will dissipate through normal water flow and rain.
The general contractor, who is responsible for costs of the clean up, was issued misdemeanor summons for Discharge without a Permit.
