On Thursday morning Greenwich Police announced that on Sunday they had stopped a burglary suspect in the area of Greenwich Ave.
According to the statement, around 5:00am they responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had backed up to the rear doors of 205 Greenwich Ave, which is the address associated with Saks.
Further, it was reported that a subject was attempting to pull open the rear doors of the establishment in an attempt to gain entry.
Upon arrival, a Greenwich Police officer observed a vehicle matching the described suspicious vehicle attempting to flee the area. The vehicle was driving in an erratic manner, including traveling on the wrong side of the roadway.
The suspect vehicle then collided head-on with the marked police vehicle, causing disabling damage to both vehicles.

The suspect, later identified as Anthony M. Vasquez, 35 years old, last known address in Queens, NY, attempted to reverse and flee the scene but due to the damage, was unable to do so.
Mr. Vasquez refused the officer’s direction to get out of the vehicle but eventually complied and was arrested.
He had in his possession a “Scream” movie mask, gloves, and a screwdriver.
The vehicle, which was a rental, had all of its identifying rental marks and VIN covered with tape, and the registration plates displayed on the vehicle did not belong to that vehicle.
Vasquez has a lengthy criminal history and was wearing an ankle monitor on his leg at the time of his arrest.
Vasquez was acting alone in this incident.
He was charged with;
- 53a-106 Possession of Burglar Tools
- 53a103 Attempted Burglary 3rd Degree
- 53a-126b Criminal Trover 2nd Degree
Vasquez was also charged with the following motor vehicle charges;
- 14-241 Improper Turn
- 14-299 Failure to Obey Traffic Signal
- 14-227a Illegal Operation of Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol and/or Drugs
- 14-147(C) Improper Use of Registration Plates
- 14-222 Reckless Operation
- 14-223(a) Disobeying Direction of Officer
- 14-224(B)(3) Evading Responsibility
Vasquez was unable to post a $50,000 bond and was held at the Greenwich Police Department until he could be transported to Stamford Superior Court. Vasquez’s initial court date is November 13, 2023, at the Stamford Superior Court.
