Flood Watch for Greenwich Starts Saturday Morning

Due to these potential heavy rains, residents are being urged to prepare for potential flooding and to take caution when traveling on Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service, two and a half to three and a half inches of rainfall are likely and Greenwich could receive as much as four inches of rain at a rate of a fourth to a half an inch of rain an hour for a three to five hour period late Saturday morning into Saturday afternoon.

There is the potential for scattered to widespread minor flooding in urban and low-lying areas as well as areas that have poor drainage. There is a localized flash flooding threat and there could be minor flooding along some small rivers and streams.

Greenwich officials will continue to monitor this storm as it impacts the region.

The rain is expected to develop tonight after midnight with a forecast six to eight-hour period of moderate to heavy rain beginning late Saturday morning into the afternoon. It is then expected to taper off into Saturday night but there could still be lingering flooding around rivers and streams.
