The point earned on the road was enough to finish one point ahead of both Clinton FC and Danbury United in a tight race that came down to the final day. Fabian Giraldo and Rapha Carminati scored for Greenwich in the deciding match.
The SASL Over-40 Division One has 10 teams, mostly from Fairfield County. Teams play an 18-game season split between fall and spring, and the team with the most points at the end is crowned champion.
Greenwich FC’s title came from a squad that was strong at every position. The roster includes many former Division One college players and former semi-professionals, and that depth carried the team through a long season against tough competition.
The club fields three teams, in the Over-30, Over-40 and Over-50 age groups, and all three compete in the SASL. Members come from Greenwich and the surrounding towns.
