PATE: Greenwich Should Not Give Hartford Democrats a Supermajority

Submitted by Nicole Pate

Greenwich should not give Hartford Democrats a supermajority in the state legislature If Democrats win a super-majority in the State Legislature, which they will if they can sweep all four legislative seats in Greenwich, they will have the ability to pass whatever their leadership wants above even a governor’s veto. Here are just three of the radical bills proposed by some of the state Senate leadership:

  1. A statewide property tax, introduced by Senate President Martin Looney
  2. The “Fair Share Act,” which would effectively doubles the 8-30g mandate in Greenwich,
introduced by Senate Housing Chair Rick Lopes
  3. Elimination of School Resource Officers statewide, introduced by Senate Judiciary Chair Gary
    Winfield

I believe that most Greenwich residents, across party lines, believe a statewide property tax would not be good for Greenwich residents, the state should not be in charge of our zoning, and law enforcement officers would be beneficial to deter any crime or violence in our schools.

In order to protect our town and ensure bipartisanship in Hartford, we cannot allow a Democratic sweep of Greenwich’s elections and a Democratic supermajority in the state legislature. On November 8th, please vote to protect us from these bills and vote for:

Ryan Fazio for State Senate
And for the state House Representative, whichever of these candidates is in your district:
Peter Sherr, 151st District
Ed Lopez, 150th District
Kimberly Fiorello, 149th District
