Steven Anthony Fronio, 65

We regret to announce the passing of Steven Anthony Fronio, who went peacefully, surrounded by his immediate family at his home in Stratford on July 30, 2024.

Born in Greenwich to parents Marie Fidelibus and John D. Fronio, he enjoyed his youth alongside brothers Johnny, Frankie, Louie, Tony, and sister Linda. Well known for his skills on the baseball diamond where he was a wizard at second base and a force behind the plate, Steven chose to forego college scholarship opportunities in order to pursue the challenges and rewards of marrying his high school sweetheart and creating a family – which he accomplished masterfully and never regretted.

Steven was a career Stone Mason, with vast experience in the industry. He was a respected member of his profession and known for his quality of work, artisanship, and as he always said, the ability to “operate and maneuver any heavy machine ever made.” He was a truly self-made expert, learning his craft hands-on early as a young man and through sweat and toil became a master at his craft.

For generations to come, people will be driving up North Street, Lake Ave., Cognewaugh and others where they’ll pass majestic grand stone walls he fashioned with his own gifted hands.

Everyone who knew him revered his cooking. There was nothing he couldn’t to do, and do quite well, in the kitchen. For a hefty plate of Steven’s delicious food, his daughters, grandsons, nephews and nieces would eagerly anticipate days like Easter, Thanksgiving, and especially Christmas Eve where they would line up at the table for a bowl of his unmatched zuppa di pesce. A generous man who knew the joy of giving, he would meticulously pickle and jar fresh crops from his own garden and gift them to various people in his circle, along with his homemade venison soppressata, which gained him a unique and highly respected reputation.

Steven was also an avid and expert hunter. He loved going “up the farm” as they put it, to his parents’ property in rural New York where he would take deer, turkey, and other game with his father and four brothers. Eventually, he also brought his oldest grandson along, where Steven imparted on him the knowledge, experience, and respect for nature he’d gained over the years.

Beyond his many personal accolades, Steven was first and foremost a devoted family man, who loved his immediate and extended family above all else. He was a loving husband to his lovely wife, a dedicated father to [his two daughters], and a hero to his two grandsons. Well-known and respected throughout Cos Cob, Riverside, and all of Greenwich, simply hearing his name in a passing conversation would turn heads, spark smiles, and warm hearts.

Steven is survived by his beloved wife Jane (Santora) Fronio, daughters Katie and Megan, grandsons Presley Shaun Boyle and Steven Wyatt Corliss, brother Anthony and sister Linda, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He will be commemorated at a celebration of life gathering where loved ones may laugh, and cry together is solidarity. In lieu of flowers and other consolations, donations are openly welcomed and greatly appreciated through his searchable GoFundMe page (Steven Fronio), where all proceeds will go directly to the family to help carry out his wishes and dreams posthumously.

Steven Fronio – a man truly like no other – will be cherished in memory and dearly missed by all who knew him, as his legacy lives on through his family, friends, and countesses others blessed to have known him.
