Juliane G. Stautner, age 101, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2026.
Juliane was born in Würzburg, Germany on March 23, 1925, the daughter of Julie Veitinger and Dr. Paul Seisser, Doctor of Law and Doctor of Economics.
Juliane attended Sophienschule, a private school for girls. After an internship at a couture dressmaker, she entered a school for teachers of home economics and early childhood education. At the end of WWII, she met Joseph F. Stautner who served with the U.S. Army Counter Intelligence Corps in Europe. They were married in 1947. The Stautners lived at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where Joe earned his Masters Degree in Physics. Juliane had a keen fashion sense and won awards for her dress designs. After college, Joe joined I.B.M. The Stautners lived in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Germany and France before coming to Greenwich in 1961.
Juliane loved Greenwich and was impressed by the many opportunities to serve the community. At first, she helped out in her children’s schools, especially enjoying library work. In 1968, she joined the Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross as a blood bank volunteer, a position she held for 44 years, where she received several citations for excellence and dedication.
Juliane was an avid member of Indian Harbor Yacht Club for more than 50 years, having joined with her husband, Joe in 1968. She enjoyed crewing for her husband on his one design L16 and watching her children, and later her grandchildren, compete on Long Island Sound.
Juliane was a parishioner of St. Agnes Parish since its charter in 1963, where she enjoyed taking part in the reading groups for spiritual material.
Juliane is survived by her four children, Marian Howard (France) David (deceased), Juliet Stautner (Greenwich), John Stautner (Houston) Kim, and Monica Nichols (Richmond) Jim, eleven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Joseph F. Stautner, in 2004 and Dr. Rolf Seisser (Gudrun) of Kronberg, Germany.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
