Grief only exists where love first lived.

Grief only exists where love first lived.

This quote has been attributed to many different names over the years, but it has never been more poignant than it is today. One year ago, on February 7th, 2024, we lost a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. Joseph Pucci, affectionately referred to as “fathead” by his siblings, “Joe Joe” by his nieces and nephew, and simply “Joe” or “Joey” by anyone who knew him. He was a man of many nicknames, a testament to the sheer number of people who loved him.

Joseph Robert Pucci

This overwhelming grief has consumed our entire family in ways none of us could have ever predicted. But over the past year, we have come to realize some irrevocable truths about life and loss. And in memory of Joseph, we wish to share those truths.

Grief is bittersweet. You feel as though there is an endless chasm inside of you. Yet, that empty feeling is comforting, in a strange way. That hole in your heart is nothing but love with no place to go. Because grief only exists where love first lived. How beautiful it is to have loved someone so fiercely. Someone who makes saying goodbye feel like the hardest thing in the world. That kind of love is a rare and precious gift.

Hold your loved ones close. Memorize every line on their face, every scar, the sound of their laugh, the unique rhythm in which they walk into a room. Love. Love as intensely as your heart will allow. You will never regret loving someone too much. And most of all, live. Live as fully as you are able, in honor of all whose lives were tragically cut short.

Joseph, your family misses you beyond what simple words can convey. Though we could not fathom the depth of your sudden loss, we will remain steadfast in keeping your memory alive. Legends never die!

In loving memory of Joseph Robert Pucci
