Elizabeth “Betty” Mary Vitanyi Ehik, a beloved educator and lifelong learner, passed away recently. Born on July 16, 1941, in Fairfield, Connecticut, Betty was the cherished daughter of Joszef and Elizabeth Vitanyi Gara.
Betty’s passion for education was evident early in her life. After graduating from Danbury College she continued her studies, receiving five master’s degrees and later earning two PhDs from Columbia University. Her dedication led her to a fulfilling career as an elementary teacher at Fairfield Elementary School in Connecticut.
In addition, Dr. Betty was the principal of Dundee Elementary and Greenwich Elementary Schools, where she continued to inspire both students and faculty. She was deeply committed to her students’ growth and well-being for 35 years. Betty will be remembered for her unwavering commitment to learning, her leadership, and her kind spirit that touched countless lives. She was predeceased by Michael Ehik her husband of 31 years. Betty leaves behind a son, Michael Balint Ehik of Venice, FL.
A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held at Venice Presbyterian Church, Venice, FL, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at 11:00am
Betty asked everyone to wear cheerful clothes to her service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Betty’s memory to St. Jude’s Hospital, American Cancer Society, and Venice Presbyterian Church.
