Parks & Rec Announces: Delay in Ferry Services to Great Captain Island (Islander II Ferry Service Only)

Notice from Parks & Rec, June 12, 2025:

Parks & Recreation would like to notify the public that there will be a delay in ferry services to Great Captain Island as the Islander II ferry continues to undergo work for an engine replacement. This engine replacement has been part of an ongoing project to repower all of the Town’s ferry engines based on the approved plan to repower each ferry boat as part of a multi-year capital improvement program. This plan will work towards reducing maintenance costs, improving reliability,  and extend the life of each vessel.

The Islander II is the first vessel to undergo the engine replacement, and the majority of the work has been completed. The boat is now back in the water, but there are some finishing touches that need to be performed. The US Coast Guard is planning to inspect the Islander II on Monday, June 16 and it is expected that the vessel will be ready for service on Friday June 20.

Parks & Recreation will be sure to provide any updates if this timeline is changed. We appreciate the patience in this matter, and we are looking forward to having the ferry back in service so everyone can enjoy the experiences that Great Captain Island has to offer.

PLEASE NOTE: Ferry service to Island Beach will still be planned as scheduled for Saturday, June 14 from the Arch Street ferry dock starting at 10:00am on the hour.
