Donald J. Sylvester, 79

It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of father and husband Donald J. Sylvester (known to friends as TC), who left us on November 13, 2024, in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Born in Stamford, Connecticut to Louis Sylvester and Angelina Bove Sylvester, the family moved to Cos Cob where Don and his predeceased brother Joseph, “Buddy” grew up attending St. Mary’s and then Greenwich High School.

Don served as a US Marine from 1963 to 1966 as a field artillery battery man spending three months off the coast of Vietnam. After returning from the service, he started work as a tradesmen plumber eventually creating his own successful business, Cos Cob Plumbing and Heating for 40 years.

Don served as past commander of the Byram Veterans Association. He was a member of the Silent Sixteens Color Guard of Connecticut, and taught honor guard at the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club. Don received the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich 2024 Community Impact Award– which is a testament to his dedication to the youth of the community. He also fought tirelessly for many veteran causes.

Don had a knack for making others feel welcome with his warm smile and upbeat conversations. In his spare time, Don loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events, spending time at his camp in Maine, riding his motorcycle and enjoying morning coffee with friends.

Don is survived by his wife of 55 years, Kathy, and their children Donna (Steve) and Doug (Lisa), a retired Westchester County Police Detective and Greenwich Fire Department Lieutenant, respectively. He is also survived by his grandchildren Haley, Ellie, Lindsay, and Brett.

Friends of Don are welcome to attend a memorial service on Wednesday November 20th from 4:00pm – 8:00pm at the Castiglione Funeral Home, 544 Old Post Road #3, Greenwich, CT 06830.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Don’s name to the Boys and Girls Club of Greenwich, 4 Horseneck Lane, Greenwich, CT 06830.
