At last Thursday’s Board of Selectmen meeting, Alex Popp from Byram reported that issues continue in his neighborhood with cars parked at the Byram Shubert Library.
“The parking lot at Byram Shubert Library is a mess,” he said. ‘There’s commercial vehicles parked overnight. The deli workers park there. There’s extended cars parked there for days or weeks. There was an RV Airstream there in February. There’s plateless cars. There’s a homeless man. There’s expired Florida plates there. You have New Lebanon School staff parked there – I don’t know why,’ Mr. Popp said.
He said while there was no signage at the Byram Schubert Library, at the Greenwich library there is signage saying parking is for patrons only.
He pointed out that adjacent to the Byram Shubert Library, William street is marked for 2-hour parking.
“There needs to be some kind of consistency with the signage,” he said.
First Selectman Fred Camillo said he would speak with library director Joe Williams about making signage consistent.
Camillo also said he would reach out to Deputy Chief Jim Bonney in charge of Parking Services.
At the town hall parking lot, where someone parked and sat in a Mercedes all last summer, there is now signage saying no overnight parking.
Mr. Popp has posted about a different Mercedes parked for weeks on South Water Street in Byram, under I95, near Rudy’s Tackle Barn.
On Sunday someone had drawn the words “Body in Trunk” in the dust covering the Mercedes, which was parked next to a no Trespassing sign.
After a phonecall Monday about the Mercedes to State Rep Steve Meskers (D-151), whose district includes Byram, he said he was able to reach out to relevant authorities to resolve the issue.
“I am happy to lend a hand, whether it’s geothermal at Hamilton Avenue School, a beach cleanup at Byram Park, topsoil remediation at Western Middle School, or other simple quality of life issues like crosswalks on the Post Road,” Meskers said.
By Tuesday afternoon, the Mercedes on South Water Street had been removed.
