The Town of Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation in partnership with the Department of Public Works is pleased to announce the upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremony for the highly anticipated Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center.
This milestone event will mark the official opening of the state-of-the-art facility, designed to serve as a premier gathering space for community activities, events, and recreational programs.

Vintage photo of the “Greenwich Civic Center” from the oral history based on an interview with Charles Henninger, the first director of the civic center. The facility was originally a recreational space employees of Electrolux. The facility opened in 1950.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at 11:00am, with local officials, community leaders, and special guests in attendance to celebrate this significant achievement.
The event is open to the public, inviting all community members to join in the celebration.
The new civic center features modern amenities, versatile event spaces, and enhanced facilities to accommodate the diverse needs of the Greenwich community.
“This new center represents a major investment in our town’s future, providing a vibrant space for residents of all ages to come together,” said First Selectman, Fred Camillo in a press release. “We look forward to welcoming the community to this incredible facility and seeing it come to life with activities, programs, and events.”
Soft Opening & Community Programming
The first month of operations will serve as a soft opening, featuring drop-in programming designed to introduce residents to the facility and its offerings. Community members will have the opportunity to explore the space, participate in various activities, and provide feedback as the center prepares for a full schedule of events and programs.
Following this initial period, the Cohen Eastern Greenwich Civic Center will launch its full programming schedule, offering a wide range of activities for all ages.
Additional details, including the official opening date and program schedule, will be announced soon.
