Is Your Kid a Basketball Hot Shot? Here is a Fun Contest Courtesy of Parks & Rec!

Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 5.42.13 PMThe Department of Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a “Hot Shots” Basketball Competition on Thursday, February 5, 2015 in the Central Middle School gym.

The competition starts at 6:30 pm and is open to boys and girls aged 9-15 as of December 31, 2014.

There are separate divisions for boys and girls in these age brackets and the younger age categories will compete at the earlier times.

  • 9-10
  • 11-12
  • 13-15

Winners in each category advance to the State meet in Stratford on Sat., March 28.

Screen Shot 2015-01-12 at 5.38.53 PM“Hot Shots” is a basketball skills contest that required running, ball control, shooting ability and strategy. It is designed to promote enthusiasm, fun, physical fitness and sportsmanship. Each player will receive three (3) timed round of one (1) minute each to run and dribble to and shoot from “hot spots” marked in various locations on the gym floor.

Points are awarded for shots made and also for attempting shots on all of the hot spots. More instructions will be given at the event.

Registration is open by mail to Recreation Division, 101 Field Point Road, Greenwich. 06836 or in person at the Recreation Division Office Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, until Thursday, Jan. 29.

Forms are available on our website, www.greenwichct.org. Click on Government and then click on Parks and Recreation. Advance registration is strongly recommended as space is limited in each category.

There will be registration available at the gym if space is available. The fee is $5.00 for registration before January 29 and $10.00 at the gym. Medals will be presented to the winners in the various divisions. The “Hot Shot” Competition is co-sponsored by the Connecticut Recreation and Parks Association.
