First Selectman Fred Camillo on Tuesday urged residents to show extra caution while driving and be prepared as heavy rains and potential coastal flooding are forecast for the Greenwich region.
The National Weather Service has put a flood watch into effect starting at 2 p.m. today, July 28, until tomorrow, July 29, at 8:00pm. It is important for residents to be prepared for potential flooding, particularly if you are near a river or stream.
According to Town of Greenwich Emergency Management Director Joe Laucella, there is high confidence that the storm will bring three to five inches of rain to the southwestern and western areas of Connecticut. There is the potential for isolated locations in those parts of the State to see up to 10 inches of rain.
It is not yet possible to know exactly what parts of the region will see that excessive amount of rain so people should be prepared and drive home carefully today.
If you have time today, it is advised that you clear any leaves, trash or debris from storm drains or gutters around your homes or driveways. If there is a history of flooding in your neighborhood, please take precautions including moving items that could be damaged if there is flooding on your property or in your basement.
While on the roads, it is vital that you never try to drive through high water. Remember the saying, “Turn around. Don’t drown” And if there is flooding, please seek higher ground immediately. Do not put your life at risk.
