First Selectman Declares Sept 1 “Steve Gospodinoff Day”

Greenwich First Selectman Fred Camillo proclaimed September 1 as Steve Gospodinoff Day.

Steve Gospodinoff began his career with the Town of Greenwich in 1987 as a Tree Climber and ably served in many capacities and assignments during his career. His dedication, teamwork, and leadership abilities served him well as he rose through the ranks with the Tree Division – he was promoted to Tree Foreman in 1990; to Tree Supervisor in 2001; Operations Manager in 2002; and Deputy Tree Warden in 2005.

During his tenure Steve planted more than 12,500 trees; led the Tree Division in the recovery from 78 storms; represented the Division during emergency responses in the Emergency Operations Center; was essential to the Town’s response to Superstorm Sandy.

He encouraged, promoted, and supported professional training, improvement, and certification for Tree Division staff.

After 34 years of exemplary service to the Greenwich community, as of September 1, 2021, Steve officially retires his chainsaw and climbing boots, but leaves a lasting legacy on his Division.
