Mike’s Organic to Close March 3

Mike’s Organic, the farm-to-home delivery service and Greenwich retail market, has announced it will be closing on Sunday, March 3.

The brand has been in business for 15 years. In 2009, longtime Greenwich resident and owner Mike Geller launched Mike’s Organic as one of the first farm-to-home delivery services in America. What began as a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) delivery grew into an online farmers market servicing Fairfield ad Westchester Counties and in 2019, Mike’s Organic opened a storefront out of its delivery headquarters in Stamford, and then opened a Greenwich storefront in Spring of 2023.

Mike’s has supported hundreds of farmers over the years and has served as a hub for the community to learn about their food. The brand has given back to numerous charities, and was recently spotlighted by Forbes when one of its employees spoke about how working at Mike’s has changed his life.

A store-closing sale will begin immediately and will continue through Sunday, with a 20% discount on all grocery items.

A statement from Geller is below:

Dear friends,

This is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. But sometimes we can’t avoid the hard times. No matter how much we fight against them.

Mike’s Organic will be closing this weekend.  As you can imagine, it’s a sad time.

This business has long been a dream of mine. A chance to unite the two things I love the most about life. Food and people. The dream started almost 15 years ago in my parents’ house with a Nissan pathfinder. A 29-year-old kid driving to farms every Monday to pick out the freshest eggs, crispiest lettuce, and juiciest tomatoes and then deliver them right to people’s homes.

Over the years the business grew to a warehouse in Stamford. Fed thousands of people and kept dozens of farms in business through COVID, and eventually expanded into a new store on the Post Road in Cos Cob.

We fought through adversity and challenges we never could have foreseen. Had successes and failures.

Several issues impeded our progress, including significantly higher-than-anticipated construction costs, inflation, food prices rising at the highest rate in decades, continued challenges in the retail industry, and more.

In the end we were not able to get the business to the place it needed to be in the time we had.

I want to express gratitude to all those who believed in, nurtured and supported our small company. It means more than you will ever know. I want to thank our incredible farmers, makers and vendors who pour their hearts into doing what they love, and who helped make all of us happier and healthier through the amazing food they shared with us.

I am deeply appreciative for all the amazing people who worked at and were the backbone of Mike’s. You loved this company the way I did. And it showed. In every smile, every kind word, every sticker given to a child. We treated people the way that we would want to be treated.

Thank you to everyone for the support these last 15 years.  The business, including the store and the delivery service, will be closing this Sunday, March 3rd. A store-closing sale will begin immediately and will continue through Sunday, with a 20% discount on all grocery items.

We will miss you all, and we hope you all will stop in to say goodbye over the next few days.

Yours truly
