The Greenwich Chamber of Commerce organized a ribbon cutting celebration for Cos Cob Wine & Spirits on Monday. Owner Peter Shah recently completed an extensive renovation and addition to his retail operation by expanding into the atrium inside Cos Cob Commons, by CVS.
With the extra square footage Mr. Shah is able to offer a greater variety of beverages and even has room to sell bags of ice, a popular request.
While Mr. Shah purchased the business in 2022, he said it was one of the oldest liquor stores in the state. Previously it was owned by George Smith, but then the business sat empty for three years including during the pandemic.
Mr. Shah, an engineer by training, enjoys operating in the retail sector, owning a deli, liquor store, and smoke shop – all with an emphasis on customer service.
He said that right now pre-made cocktails like the Negroni – composed of gin, sweet vermouth and Campari – are popular, and that customers find them convenient to bring along on their travels.
Another popular ready-to-drink cocktail as the weather turns warmer is the Margarita – combining tequila, lime and triple sec.
But overall, Shah said wine is his top seller. And that includes options with low sugar and lower alcohol content, as well as organic and biodynamic wines and wines with low sulfites.
There is a large selection of lower alcohol drinks and non-alcoholic drinks including ready-to-drink cocktails, IPAs, Proseccos and aperitifs.
There is plenty of parking in behind the Cos Cob Commons as well as on Putnam Ave.
Customers can order in advance for pickup via the website.
Another option is to order through Uber Eats for delivery.
Cos Cob Wine & Spirits is located at 130 East Putnam Ave in Cos Cob 06807.
