Chef Duo Open to Open Freebird in Greenwich, a Fast-Casual Chicken Restaurant

Award-winning chefs Scott and Heather Fratangelo are bringing a fresh perspective to Greenwich with Freebird, a fast-casual chicken restaurant with a menu focused on chef-driven sandwiches, salads, wraps, and more.

Freebir, which will take the space formerly home to Kennedy’s All-American Barber, opens to the public on July 26, for breakfast, lunch, and an early casual dinner.

The menu showcases the strong belief that good food can be simple food, executed well.

Everything is created in-house, from sauces, salad dressings and sides, to desserts.

From the Hot Bird sandwich with red cabbage slaw and Sriracha honey, to The Cos Cob, their twist on a Cobb salad, there’s a customizable option for everyone who visits. Simply select whether you enjoy your chicken grilled or crispy.

Start your day with the Bird BEC, a classic bacon, egg, and cheese served on a brioche roll,
which can always be upgraded with a generous crispy chicken cutlet. The Yammy Bird packs
sweet potato, egg, pickled red onion, scallion, avocado, and Sriracha mayonnaise to make the
perfect breakfast wrap.

And yes, the bird is the word, but veggie lovers can enjoy the Squash Bird sandwich, a crispy butternut squash cutlet topped with goat cheese, lettuce, house pickles, and balsamic. Gluten-free buns are also available. To round out the experience, the sides—think crispy Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and red cabbage slaw— were carefully selected to complement the offerings.

While Scott spearheads the savory effort, Heather’s background in pastry brings fresh baked croissants, a variety of muffins, brownies, and cookies for a sweet surprise. The coffee program serves up local favorite Caffè Ammi Roasting Co. in a variety of preparations including espresso, cappuccino, macchiato, and more.

The design of the restaurant walks a delicate balance between coastal vibes and a fresh take on all things chicken. The rustic, white-washed brick surface creates a stark contrast between the navy blue bungalow shutters on the wall. The lighting—rattan pendant lights and sconces—keep things playful and fun, while the wingspans of birds fly freely on wallpaper on the back wall.

Diners can order online at freebirdfood.com and visit the friendly team in-person to order or, for a quick meal, peruse the grab-and-go section to pick up a ready-made meal.
