Republican rhetoric about “voting integrity” often leads to restrictions that make it harder for citizens to cast their ballots. Yet both my State Senator, Ryan Fazio, and my State Representative, Tina Courpas, voted NO on the 2026 bill establishing no-excuse absentee voting for all Connecticut voters. Thirty-seven states allow this option because the vast majority of states recognize that not everyone can get to the polls on Election Day.
Despite Fazio’s and Courpas’s “no” votes, the Connecticut legislature passed, and the Governor signed this important bill to establish no excuse mail-in voting, which a majority of CT voters approved in a 2024 referendum. This bill (HB5001) also included criminal penalties for tampering with absentee-ballot drop boxes and expanded the Attorney General’s authority over election interference to protect citizens of CT.
We need legislators who will protect our right to vote, not limit it. Our right to vote is the primary way we can elect legislators who truly represent us and our values.
Please consider voting for two candidates running for office that pledge to protect our right to vote: Jill Oberlander for State Senator, and Amiel Goldberg for State Representative in the 149th Assembly district, and in other Greenwich districts, please re-elect Steve Meskers (150th) or Hector Arzeno (151st). Also, please re-elect Ned Lamont as our Governor and Jim Himes in the 4th Congressional District.
