Vagner: Re-Elect Steve Meskers

Submitted By Karsten Vagner, RTM member representing District 3, the opinion below is mine alone

At (Wednesday) night’s Greenwich Democrats meeting, I was proud to nominate Representative Steve Meskers for his fourth term as State Representative of the 150th District.

Steve is the first Democrat to represent Greenwich in the Connecticut State House since the Taft Administration.

When he won his first race in 2018, the headlines called his victory “a stunner,” “an upset,” “historic.” And it was all of those things. But it was something else, too: It was just the beginning.

I admire Steve very much. He is wise, he is kind, he is operatic in his passion. But what I admire most is that he puts in the work. Time after time over his three terms, Steve has shown this town that Democrats get things done. Democrats deliver.

And Greenwich is responding. Steve has represented our values and our interests so well in Hartford, Democrats don’t have just one of Greenwich’s three seats in the State House. We now have all of them. Steve was the first, but he put in the work – alongside many others – to make sure he wasn’t the last.

Steve stands for seniors, for students, for small business, for people in need. What he does not stand for is nonsense.

I read recently that Representative Meskers should not be re-elected, and for one reason: he “betrayed” the town. That’s nonsense.

I believe Representative Meskers should be re-elected and I don’t have one reason. I have twenty four million.

We are grateful for Steve Mesker’s service, for his leadership, and for his effective efforts in bringing our tax dollars back to our community.

It was my honor to nominate my representative, my colleague on the RTM, and my friend Steve Meskers.
