RAABE: Greenwich Republican BET goes full DOGE Ball, with results just as disappointing.

Submitted by Brian Raabe

Republican BET efforts to gaslight otherwise, BUDGET CUTS IMPACT THE QUALITY OF EDUCATION, as we saw in motion at the BOE meeting last night.

No magic beans, no hidden fluff or ah hah! moments. Just less for students.

BOE spent the evening engaged in the exercise of false thrift the Republican BET have forced upon the community.

Yet after a line-by-line review, the DOGE like process has only secured half of the $4MM in cuts required by eliminating/reducing such luxuries as:

Curriculum and instruction materials

Positive Pathways Program (for students with behavioral issues)

PE in elementary schools (staff reduction)

Eliminate 6 full time Administrative Assistants (the assumption is the work they do will somehow vaporize?)

There is also a desire to eliminate one house at GHS to cut $728,000 but this was tabled due to an absence of Republican board members.

Never mind that the multiple house system at GHS is what anchors the high quality, “small school experience” within the large student body being educated.

Republican BET DOGE Ballers say kick it to the curb, cram more students in the houses that remain.

The biggest potential cut, moving up school start time, was also tabled due to Republican absences.

Turning back the wheels of progress to GHS’s former 7:30am start would free up $2.3MM.

Starting at 7:45am provides $1.9MM.

That’s the state of play. Another $2MM+ in cuts that only seem possible by having kids overlap with the tail end of the night shift by way of a 7:30am start.

Well done Republican BET. Feels like an own goal for public school students but you all seem oddly pleased.

The BET members willing to sacrifice Greenwich education quality and Greenwich quality of life on the altar of DOGE are not going to just go back to making cars and colonizing Mars, they must be rejected at the ballot box.

So, when September arrives and your child is waking up in the pitch black, despite the science (the stuff taught in fully funded schools) saying that’s a bad idea…

When September arrives and your child’s GHS house size has grown by hundreds…

When that starts, think of the Republican BET DOGE Ballers false thrift that made that possible for want of $4MM (or 0.77%) in a $521MM town budget.

Then grab that ballot on November 4 and fill in the little bubble with your number 2 pencil (and you may have to share your pencil because, you know, budget cuts) fill in that bubble for anyone but a Republican BET member.
