In act of utter contempt, the budget guidelines released at Tuesday night’s public meeting show the Row B slate is looking for another implied $3.7 million cut to the school budget.
We don’t need to wait for the election to see where Row B thinking is.
Row B = school cuts. That’s their math.
Their “support schools” lawn signs should be in the gaslighting hall of fame.
Row B is an anti-education slate.
In addition to funding, their record of management is awful.
When she took the position, Dr. Jones was the 6th Superintendent in 10 years.
She was the 14th in 20 years.
Can you imagine the lack of Row B stewardship that means a new superintendent every 18 months on average for two full decades.
The “support schools” gaslight caucus that couldn’t run a bake sale – or keep a school head for more than 540 days on average over 20 years – wants to keep running the show.
They tout their 100-year record in support of their ambition.
Let’s unpack that.
There’s a pop culture strain of philosophy that asks, “Where else but right here?”
The idea being that all you have done in your life leads to your current place.
You are the product of your own decision making.
Apply that prism to the Town of Greenwich, and the “Row B” candidates running on a 100-year record that has brought us to today.
We have recently seen our average property value fall below Darien’s.
One could say there is more economic diversity here, more condos, but that has always been true.
Why have we been overtaken and what bad decisions by Row B have made that possible?
The century of their decision making also includes taking a decade to clean up toxic high school ball fields.
Fields made toxic by Row B’s own decision to fill them to grade with burnings from a town incinerator.
Inconvenient for sure – but you’re the ones flying the 100-year flag of management – you own that.
Some dismiss 100 years of Row B as being the result of an organized minority usurping power.
The truth is, that doesn’t happen unless it’s met with apathy.
66% of the town is unaffiliated or Row A registered.
The stoic would rightly say, “What else can one expect if Row B goes to the polls and Row A doesn’t.”
Surely, the current environment must mark peak “fed up” with Row B at the Board of Education and Board of Estimate and Taxation.
If not a cleaning of the attic in our 100-year-old home now, after ANOTHER $ 4 million cut, when?
In the age of AI, space exploration, innovation, and real geopolitical competition, how prepared will Greenwich High students be when we cut funding each year?
Let’s ask the folks in their seats since the days of prohibition.
I’m not sure that’s where you’ll find a good answer.
They aren’t even pretending to care about the election and aren’t waiting to cut more.
Shut off the Row B microphone and get logic and reason back in fully funded classrooms.
Vote Row A.
For the BET, that means:
Elliot Alchek
Matt DesChamps
Laura Erickson
Doug Fenton
Stephen Selbst
David Weisbrod
Voting for all above secures the tie breaking vote that will reverse the damage being done. Please vote for this entire group of people.
