PRIHODA: Hopeful RTM Will Limit Gas Leaf Blowers

Submitted by Monica Prihoda, Greenwich

To the Editor:

A new year and a new term for all Town of Greenwich officials – and I am hopeful!  Why?

Because the Town can hopefully have a civil dialogue with newly elected officials who ran as moderates – in a show of unity on a bipartisan election slate last fall.

Thank you to the Selectpeople who worked hard to get the noise ordinance on the RTM agenda for a vote at Tuesday night’s full first meeting of the year.  BTW, all town meetings are open to the public.

It is now up to the “new” RTM to decide the quality of life fate of residents on many issues and one in particular.

Gas powered leaf blowers:  Will we continue to hear the deafening sound of gas-powered leaf blowers most of the year and inhale the unhealthy fumes spewing from them – all of which contribute to our climate crisis?  No walks at Binney Park or Greenwich Point for two days now.

Not connected, naysayers say?

It all is. It all adds up to an unhealthy life.  Every choice is a choice including maintaining the status quo. Doing nothing seals our fate.

No action by an individual or group is too small.

Am I hopeful the RTM will put initial limits on these machines and eventually phase them out? Yes.
