Our Kids and Town Deserve Better — Vote Democratic

Submitted by Robin Zisson Leader, Greenwich

As a parent and taxpayer, I’m deeply concerned about the ongoing dismantling of our excellent public schools—driven by the Republican majority on the Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET). Every Democrat on the BET supported the Board of Education’s level-services budget. Every Republican voted it down. Now we’re seeing the consequences across town.

In just one example, because the BET refused to fund our schools properly, buses are now being parked at Western Middle School—a short-sighted, avoidable mess. What should have been a basic town responsibility has turned into yet another burden on our schools, staff, and students. Noise, fumes, safety concerns, oil leaks, ruined grounds—this is not what a “top school district” looks like.

Our kids and teachers deserve safe, well-funded schools—not constant budget battles. Greenwich has better options and enough resources. What we lack is leadership that values education.

This isn’t a “school issue”  it’s a town-wide failure of leadership and planning. Greenwich has plenty of better options for bus parking, from the Eastern Civic Center to the Island Beach lots. The refusal underscores how little foresight and flexibility guides our town’s Republican-led fiscal policy. Our kids and teachers deserve better.

If you’re tired of seeing our schools shortchanged year after year, there’s only one real solution: vote Democratic this November. Let’s elect leaders who actually believe in supporting public education—not dismantling it.
