MONTANARO: Why is asking for fiscal responsibility a bad thing?

Submitted by Joe Montanaro

Huge, over budget and far above originally estimated construction contracts. Why do they do it? Who benefits? It’s been allowed to go on for decades. Ask questions. Why is asking for fiscal responsibility a bad thing?

Calls for this responsibility have been met by keyboard warriors who whine and moan about everything but do not investigate anything. Again, why? Who gets paid? Are they ill-informed due to complacency or operating with intent due to complicity.

Kickbacks for construction jobs under the guise of beautification have been going on for decades. The mob in Newark and Atlantic City did the same thing with their politically connected allies. It can happen anywhere. Not saying that goes on here in this town, but it doesn’t hurt to have an open mind that these things exist. Nor should anyone who brings up a potential conflict of interest or impropriety be attacked.

Hold these elected officials accountable. Keep eyes on the town committees. Hold each other accountable and get involved.

Irresponsible spending; add it to the list of what you’re voting for if you vote for any Republican who
isn’t a strong, staunch representative of our values I can’t speak to what has gone on with the old RTC or in the past regarding RTM and committee allocation of funds to repair schools, but I can tell you that all we are asking for is to spend the money properly and for the public to do their due diligence on how their tax dollars are being spent. This is not a “right wing” concept. It is a moderate perspective and initiative. I can say that the new RTC is very moderate by every traditional metric. Where we split is on blindly rubber stamping everything put in front of us just because “that’s how it’s always been done” or because the GOP says so.

Nobody I have encountered is “right wing” or proud boys or racists or anti-schools and calling us such is a weak attempt to silence our opinions and policies. It is a losing tactic but keep going if you’d like. The only thing that suffers is your credibility.
