MEDHURST: In the 151st District, the choice Is Clear – Arzeno will reflect our values.

Submitted by Jay Medhurst

We deserve to be represented in Hartford by those who reflect our values: integrity, humility, thoughtfulness, and respect for others. In the 151st District, that choice is clear. Hector Arzeno is the candidate to speak for us on the most important matters facing our town and state.

I have served with Hector for several years on the Representative Town Meeting (RTM), most recently on the Finance Committee. Hector has the unique abilities to see any issue before him from different perspectives and think through the short- and long-term impacts of his decisions as a public servant. His voice has been invaluable, and it will serve District 151 and the town of Greenwich well in the General Assembly.

This stands in stark contrast to his opponent. Peter Sherr’s record is one of divisiveness and selfishness. His long history of dissent for its own sake has materially affected the Board of Education, and by extension, every student who has attended public school in Greenwich. Sherr’s tumultuous stint on the BOE spanned eight superintendents and his actions directly led to the departure of at least two of them, including Sidney Freund. According to a 2012 Greenwich Time article, Freund blamed “accusatory, disrespectful and uncivil” discourse in part for his resignation. The reporting left little question that Sherr was largely to blame. It is worth noting that just two months before resigning, Freund was named Outstanding Superintendent of the Year by the State of Connecticut Parent Teacher Student Association.

Is it any wonder that Sherr’s lack of decorum and respect for others led to him being the only BOE member in Greenwich history to be censured by his colleagues? If elected to serve in Hartford, will he sling curses at other elected officials during public hearings as he did when a member of the BOE? Will he continue to indulge his pettiness by refusing to apologize for his childish behavior? Is that how Greenwich should be represented at the State House?

On November 8th, I ask my neighbors to join me in voting for Hector Arzeno. He is, without question, the best and most honorable candidate.

Respectfully,

Jay Medhurst
