LETTER: Many towns are reducing budgets, which is not true in Greenwich.

Letter to the editor from, Wynn McDaniel

I find myself in shock when I read the many criticisms made about the BET proposed 20/21 budget.

Do people really think that on May 20th, which is the date proposed by Government Lamont to start re-opening businesses, that everything return to normal immediately?

While I like to be optimistic, we have to wake up and realize that people have lost their jobs, and much of their retirement savings.

We still don’t know the true effects that this shut down caused by this pandemic has on our economy and the way we run our Town and our schools.

Ignoring this is unrealistic and that is why I support the BET proposed budget for 20/21.

Many towns are reducing budgets, which is not true in Greenwich. Contrary to what people believe, the BET did not slash the town or education budgets – instead they are remaining flat.

Time will tell whether this was the correct decision or not, but based on every one’s predictions I believe the decision of the BET members who voted for the 20/21 budget is the correct one. To them I say, I thank you.
