LETTER: Fazio has not earned our support – he has squandered it.

Submitted by Harald Hille, Riverside

We have a state senatorial election coming soon in our Senate District 36, in which a Democrat, Trevor Crow, is contending against the incumbent Republican, Ryan Fazio.

Mr. Fazio ran for the seat in 2020 with little other than his status as a home-town fellow to recommend him. Since his election Mr. Fazio has done little in Hartford during his one term so far to defend the interests of his constituents, his state or his country.

Among other things, he voted against HB 5414, which supports women’s reproductive rights in Connecticut, against funding for Stamford Westhill HS, against funding for mental health care for kids, against funding for paid family leave, against the bill promoting clean air, against funding for HVAC systems in schools, against safer gun laws in Connecticut. A lot of no’s. In the few public meetings Mr. Fazio has granted, he has tried to seem more moderate than his voting record clearly indicates. He is not straightforward in his messaging.

Ms. Crow has lived and worked in Greenwich for years. She is a certified therapist and experienced counselor, used to listening to people and anxious to help them solve problems. She runs her business in town and seeks to ensure that more businesses come to Connecticut.

She seeks to promote fiscal and budgetary responsibility in the state, responsibility not only to taxpayers but also to state employees, inter alia to keep paying down the state pension debt inherited from decades of poor budgeting in Hartford. The interest on that debt hurts the state every year and consumes needed dollars.

Mr. Fazio has not earned our support – he has squandered it. My vote is for Trevor Crow for Senate District 36.
