LANCASTER: Stop the Insanity – Vote Republican

Submitted by David J Lancaster, Riverside

It’s election season, and the yard signs are starting to appear like crocuses in spring. Some of the messages are standard fare, some more explicit and urgent, others downright desperate. My favorite is “Stop the Insanity – Vote Republican.”

This nicely crystallizes our current situation and the solution in one commanding phrase. Ever since Biden’s inauguration and the Democrats assumed power on Capitol Hill, the daily headlines of newspapers across the country read like the satirical Babylon Bee. Unfortunately, there’s nothing funny about the state of our nation and the human suffering under Biden and widespread Democratic rule.
On Biden’s inauguration day, the core inflation rate was 1.4% – the lowest ever recorded. In the span of less than two years, it skyrocketed to 8.2% – the highest in 40 years. This insidious and destructive tax is even higher on food and fuel. Mortgage rates and rental expense are rising rapidly. Americans’ standard of living is in a free fall.

On inauguration day, America was energy dominant and self-sufficient – the chief exporter of oil and natural gas in the world. Gas and oil were cheap. Biden promised to keep the oil and gas spigots open if elected. He lied. On inauguration day Biden ordered them closed starting with the Keystone pipeline. The only thing he fueled were rising gas and oil prices that sparked inflation.

Biden and the Democratic Party are responsible for 5.5 trillion of new spending packages, including the Orwellian named “The Inflation Reduction Act” passed to cure the burgeoning inflation which they caused.

Biden also promised to keep the borders secure. Again, he lied. An estimated five million people have flowed through our southern border with no vetting. The carnage of human and child trafficking, the rise in crime in cities and towns, and the deaths from Fentanyl (around 100,00 per year) are solely on Biden’s hands and his fellow Democrats including Jim Himes and Richard Blumenthal.

Democrat-run cities across the country are being turned into war zones as prosecutors and attorney generals refuse to prosecute criminals and release them repeatedly under insane “no bail” laws.
So much for Build Back Better!

If you think the Democrats running for state office will be different than those at the national level, you’re deluding yourself. For instance, don’t fall for the “I’m going to cut taxes” promise. State Democratic candidates always promise to cut taxes, but once elected, rarely do. In fact, they often do the opposite.

Alex Kasser and Steven Meskers both said they would cut taxes but voted to impose a new payroll tax and highway use tax. Dannel Malloy ran for re-election as Governor saying he was done raising taxes – but raised income taxes in his second term and chased GE out of the state. Trevor Crow is promising to “continue to cut taxes.” I wonder how that will work out? I think we know.

Connecticut’s economy this past quarter shrunk by 4.7% annualized – the second largest decrease of any state in the country. In 2019-2021, the Democrats in Hartford increased taxes by over $1 billion per year. None of Lamont’s vaunted tax cuts were across the board and only $180 million are permanent. Most of the “cuts” will return in December (gas tax) and next year. The deficit is also expected to balloon to around $800 million. Do you think our local Democratic candidates will vote to cut spending or raise taxes? Raising taxes is in their political DNA.

We are in a critical moment in our country’s history. This mid-term election is the most consequential since 1862. We must, as Lincoln said, “think anew and act anew.” Republicans are not perfect, and we may not like a candidate’s position on this or that issue, but the local GOP candidates “stand athwart history yelling stop” against the moral and economic insanity that seeks to overtake our land. Their zeal is for the commonweal and freedom of individual citizens consistent with enduring American principles.

For the sake of our future and our children’s future or whether you’re a Democrat or an Independent, now is the time to vote Republican this November. Your vote will help stop the insanity from engulfing our country, state, and town any further.

NOTE: The deadine for submitting letters to the editor for the November 8 election is Nov 1, 2022 at noon.
