To the Editor:
I am proud to support Jill Oberlander for State Senate in the 36th District. I serve with Jill on the RTM Finance Committee, where she is Vice Chair, and I served on the BET in 2024 and 2025. I know her work, and I know her heart.
Jill’s record is one of results. In 2017, Democrats won control of the BET for the first time in nearly a century, and Jill became the first Democrat Chair to lead it. As BET chair, Jill delivered a budget with a zero percent mill rate increase, the first in more than 20 years outside of a revaluation. She then served on the Board of Selectmen from 2019 to 2021, helping to guide our town through the uncertainty of the pandemic.
Jill’s intellect matches her résumé: Cornell, the University of Chicago Law School, work with the MTA, and the revitalization of lower Manhattan after 9/11. On the finance committee, she is a stabilizing presence in debate, with a rare command of town finance and the historical context to match. Republicans and Democrats alike respect Jill’s keen intellect and her integrity.
What I treasure most is her kindness. When I was a new RTM member working on environmental and election issues, Jill, then on the Board of Selectmen, reached out with advice and support, and it helped us turn the tide on many of them. She did the same when I ran for the BET, and again while I served on it, helping us frame the issues that mattered. Jill’s sister was my wife’s classmate at Yale, and I count her not only as a dedicated professional but as a friend. Jill is who you want in your corner.
Jill is endorsed by Congressman Jim Himes and Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons, and her priorities are ours: affordability, support for local business, and protection of our constitutional rights. She is exactly the kind of person we want to send to Hartford, and she will fight for our interests in the State Senate. Please join me in voting for Jill Oberlander on November 3.
Sincerely,
Scott Kalb
