Connecticut is fortunate to have excellent public schools, and education has consistently been a priority for State Representative Hector Arzeno throughout his time in Hartford. As our State Representative, Hector has helped secure more than $30 million in state funding for Greenwich schools, including critical investments in Central Middle School and Old Greenwich Elementary School. He is now working to secure funding for the Riverside Elementary School renovation, recognizing that our students and educators deserve facilities that reflect the quality of education taking place within them.
As a member of the General Assembly’s Education Committee, Hector’s advocacy extends beyond school funding. He has worked closely with Greenwich Public Schools’ Superintendent to support the district’s implementation of the Science of Reading, an evidence based approach to literacy instruction. He also helped secure a moratorium addressing racial imbalance concerns in several Greenwich schools, providing the district with important flexibility while broader state policies are reconsidered. In the upcoming legislative session, Hector plans to continue advocating for a more thoughtful and effective approach to how Connecticut measures racial imbalance in its schools.
Hector has also been a strong advocate for revisiting Connecticut’s Education Cost Sharing formula, which determines how state education funding is distributed to municipalities. Recognizing that the current formula does not adequately reflect the evolving needs of districts like Greenwich, he has helped elevate this issue as a priority among legislative leadership and the Governor’s office. He remains committed to working with the Education Committee to pursue meaningful adjustments that better reflect the needs of today’s school districts.
Hector’s commitment to Greenwich extends well beyond our schools. He works closely with local nonprofit organizations and understands the importance of ensuring that decisions affecting our community reflect the voices of those who live here. He has advocated for maintaining local control over zoning decisions and remains actively engaged with organizations supporting Greenwich students and families, including the Greenwich Alliance for Education and the Boys & Girls Club of Greenwich.
As members of the Democratic caucus of the Greenwich Board of Education, we recognize the importance of having a strong advocate for our schools and community in Hartford. We appreciate Hector’s continued commitment to Greenwich, his collaborative approach, and his understanding of the needs of our students, educators, and families. His willingness to work directly with district leadership, listen to local concerns, and advocate for meaningful changes at the state level makes him an invaluable partner to our schools.
We are grateful for the work Hector has done and believe it is imperative that he has the opportunity to continue delivering for Greenwich. We hope you will join us in supporting Hector Arzeno for State Representative in the 151st District this Election Day.
