Three Time’s a Charm? Dr. Michael Goldstein to Challenge Jim Himes for CT’s 4th Congressional District

Press release from Dr. Michael Goldstein, Greenwich

Dr. Michael Goldstein, a physician and attorney, on Friday announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives in Connecticut’s 4th Congressional District on Friday.

Goldstein will challenge 17-year incumbent Rep. Jim Himes in November 2026. This marks Goldstein’s third campaign for the seat, following a 2024 race in which he earned over 122,000 votes — the strongest Republican performance against Himes in years — while spending just $1.27 per vote, one of the most efficient congressional campaigns in the country.

“Connecticut families are struggling with one of the highest electricity rates in the nation, a housing crisis that’s pushing young people out of state, and a healthcare system that
puts bureaucrats between doctors and patients,” said Dr. Goldstein in the release. “After 17 years, what has Jim Himes done about any of it? It’s time to put a Doctor in the House.”

Goldstein’s platform centers on four pillars:

The Doctor: Restore the doctor-patient relationship, cut healthcare bureaucracy, make healthcare more affordable and accessible. This includes fixing the broken Right to Try Law that has helped fewer than 100 patients with terminal illnesses nationwide — zero of them children — while 30% of rare disease patients die before age five.

The Lawyer: Break Connecticut’s energy upward spiral, expand natural gas pipeline capacity and nuclear generation, and deliver real relief from utility bills that drain family budgets.

The Father: Launch a 21st Century Homestead Act to make homeownership achievable again, invest in infrastructure without new tolls, and create a Stay-in-CT program offering $25,000 in student debt relief for graduates who build their careers here. Fund trade schools so that Connecticut residents can earn good salaries and fill the huge job shortage in these trades.

The Fighter: Secure the border, stand unequivocally with Israel, protect Jewish students facing antisemitism on college campuses, defend parental rights, religious liberty, second amendment rights and make Connecticut the Constitution State again.

Dr. Goldstein is a board-certified ophthalmologist who has practiced medicine for over 40 years treating patients in the tri-state area. He also holds a law degree and has served as President of the New York County Medical Society. He and his wife have raised their family in the district.

“This isn’t about me,” Dr. Goldstein said in the release. “This is about the families I’ve treated for decades, the young people who can’t afford to stay in the state where they grew up, and the veterans and patients who deserve a Congress that actually fights for them. Connecticut deserves better. I certainly would never put Americans at risk by voting to defund Homeland Security when we are in a conflict with a Terrorist state.”

Dr. Michael Goldstein is a physician, attorney, and an almost 40 year Connecticut resident. He has practiced the specialty of Ophthalmology and restored vision for over 40 years as a Corneal Transplant Surgeon. He served as President and later Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the New York County Medical Society. He is serving his second term of the Greenwich RTM where he serves on the Health and Human Services Committee. He and his wife reside in Greenwich. Like many of you, he has had to commute on overcrowded roads or on an outdated rail line.
