FRANTZ: Trevor Crow’s Flyer is Riddled with Untruths.

Submitted by Icy Frantz, Riverside

I got a flyer from Senator Ryan’s Fazio’s opponent last week that is riddled with untruths.

And although I know the political landscape today leaves much to be desired, I believe in our country and I am thankful that there are good folks willing to run for office.

To a certain extent I respect all candidates who throw their names in the ring. As the wife of a former state senator, I know the life of a public servant is challenging- and thus, to do so, means that the candidate feels passionately about our country, state or town and making life better for all.

We may not agree on how to do that- on how to make life better for all- but each candidate deserves the respect to tell us, the voters, what he or she believes and why.

Trevor Crow’s flyer is everything wrong with politics.

I am sure that there is some strategic reason (or pure desperation) for a candidate to spend precious money on a deceitful flyer, but as a voter and a mother and a woman, I find it incredibly belittling.

For the record – and to be completely transparent – I will be voting for Senator Ryan Fazio in November. His opponent’s mailing did not deter me.

Senator Fazio has been clear on many occasions (written and spoken) that he is committed to keeping abortion legal in Connecticut. In addition, while in office he introduced a bill to improve women’s access to birth control.  He is also an advocate of assuring higher safety and health standards to surgical abortions- something that many health providers support and know is important as well.

And I repeat – Senator Fazio is committed to keeping abortion legal in the state of Connecticut.

But that is certainly just one of his many concerns and likewise, just one of mine. Senator Fazio is committed to improving our economy and believes in the safety of all citizens. He is a strong advocate of the business community. His strength in these areas have earned him the endorsements from the CT. Fraternal Order of Police, Stamford Police Association, CT. National Federation of Independent Business (Small Business Advocacy) and Connecticut Realtors Association.

And he cares about the mental health epidemic that is plaguing our society and especially our youth. Senator Fazio introduced legislation that would study the effects of social media, and cell phones and as the mother of four, I know first-hand that he is on to something. He also co-sponsored HB5001 which will improve access to mental health care in our state.

On top of all of that, Senator Fazio is smart, hardworking, and honest. He cares deeply about the community in which he was raised, his home.

Trust is something earned not given. And while Senator Fazio has earned my trust- his opponent has not.
