FISHER: There they go again

Submitted by Harry Fisher, Republican member of the Board of Estimate and Taxation

There they go again. Democrats distorting the truth to fit their false narrative. Or maybe it’s selective memory. In fact, a recent Op-Ed (WEISBROD: Greenwich Police deserve more than lip service Sept 21, 2023) may be a combination of both. A claim, published today in a piece about Public Safety by my democratic opponent states that outgoing BET Chair Dan Ozizmir “moved to eliminate funding for an innocuous-sounding police maintenance system.”  It’s unfortunate that this candidate must resort to a blatant distortion of the record. The fact is that no such motion was made.

If you don’t believe me, you can see for yourself on page four of the BET minutes of the meeting.

And of course there are other distortions as well. In preparing this year’s town budget Republicans carefully considered the tough decisions that were made as to what was funded or not funded. Funding on some police related equipment was deferred because the equipment did not reach the end of its life cycle and was functioning properly.

With respect to the replacement of fire apparatus, again, difficult decisions must be made and Republicans have consistently provided funding for fire apparatus, as was done this and last fiscal years.

The facts speak for themselves. Republicans are committed to assuring our town remains the best place to live, work, raise a family, and retire.
