Smilow Physician Receives Spirit of Excellence in Oncology Award

Gilda’s Club of Westchester has awarded its inaugural Spirit of Excellence in Oncology Award to D. Barry Boyd, MD, MS, a medical oncologist with the Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich, for his commitment and dedication to the cancer community.

“Dr. Boyd has been promoting the importance of diet and lifestyle changes to be incorporated into patient care long before it became a practice norm. His thoughtful and data-driven holistic approach to oncologic care has been a tremendous asset to our community for over three decades,” M. Sung Lee, MD, interim medical director of Smilow Cancer Hospital Care Center in Greenwich said in a release.

Board certified in Internal Medicine and Oncology, Dr. Boyd is nationally recognized as a medical oncologist who specializes in nutrition and exercise. Dr. Boyd is the author of “The Cancer Recovery Plan,” which focuses on nutrition, exercise and stress relief. He also influenced the curriculum on nutrition and integrative medicine at Yale Cancer Center, where he still lectures on nutrition and cancer.

“We are grateful for all the work and care Dr. Boyd has given to Gilda Radner and thousands of cancer patients over the past 20 years, and for his support of our mission through our Professional Advisory Board,” said Debbie Vincent, director of Outreach and Clinical Partnerships for Gilda’s Club.

According to the organization, the Spirit of Excellence in Oncology Award is presented to “someone who has not only made an outstanding contribution to the field of oncology, but also embodies the spirit of our namesake, Gilda Radner.” Gilda’s Club Westchester has provided more than 20,000 cancer patients and their families in New York and Connecticut with free support, education, healthy lifestyle and social programs.

Dr. Boyd will be honored at the Annual Comedy Gala on Thursday, April 7 at the Fenway Golf Club in Scarsdale.
