A Tale of Two Counties: Addressing Food Insecurity in Fairfield County through Community Empowerment, will engage food systems changemakers who lead and advocate for community-based initiatives working to make food, land and watersheds accessible to all Fairfield County residents.
Moderated by Simone Quartey, Director of Center for Equity & Justice at YWCA Greenwich, the discussion will explore how the data around wealth and health disparities is underpinned by systemic barriers to nourishing, culturally resonate and place-based food. Panelists will unpack these barriers and the ways in which they contribute to the unprecedented levels of food insecurity in Fairfield County.
Panel speakers include Isaiah Betran – Community Outreach and Hospitality Leader, Iglesia De Dios de Profecia, Lutonya Russell-Humes – VP, Grants & Programs at Fairfield County’s Community Foundation, Reggy Saint Fortcolin – Founder of Sovereign Land Trust, Debbie Sims – Community Champion of the East End NRZ Pop-Up Market & Cafe, Gary Soffer MD – Assistant Professor at Yale School of Medicine specializing in Pediatric Allergy/Immunology and
Integrative Medicine.
Food insecurity is a complex issue with several interrelated factors. Communities most impacted are leading the way with effective systemic solutions as they strengthen connectivity, build trusted relationships and foster a collective vision towards food as a human right. Panelists will share their experience and knowledge around what an equitable and nourishing food system means through the lens of philanthropy, policy, health, narrative and grassroots organizing. We
hope you will join us.
A Tale of Two Counties is a sequel to A Tale of Two Towns: Addressing Food Insecurity in Greenwich, held in October 2023 at Greenwich Town Hall.
