Temple Sholom Volunteers Cook Dinner for Greenwich’s Kids in Crisis

Temple Sholom’s Norma Perlstein Social Action Committee is actively involved with coordinating efforts to fulfill the mitzvah of tikkun olam (repairing the world) while supporting the synagogue’s mission of making the world a better and brighter place.

On September 17, volunteers from the committee were joined by Assistant Rabbi Gisel Baler to help prepare a dinner meal donation to Greenwich’s Kids in Crisis, an organization that continues to provide hope for youth and families by providing “emergency shelter and critical services 24/7.”

“With Rosh Hashanah just a few weeks away, it is important to reflect on the ways we can continue to make a difference for others in the New Year,” said Eve Jedda Bernstein, chair of the Social Action Committee. “Cooking for the children and staff at Kids in Crisis was such a meaningful experience for our volunteers and we look forward to doing this again very soon.”

Temple Sholom has several community service opportunities lined up for the fall including the annual High Holiday Food Collection and Yom Kippur Teen Food Sorting Project to benefit Neighbor to Neighbor, as well as its yearly Teen Thanksgiving Cooking to provide local homebound and elderly residents with holiday meals.

In the spring, the committee will organize a Temple-wide Mitzvah Day which will offer hands-on projects for all ages, and will incorporate both the nursery school and religious school communities.
