Old Greenwich’s First Public Chanukah Celebration Announced

Jewish Riverside Old Greenwich is organizing the Old Greenwich community’s first-ever public Chanukah celebration, set to take place on Sunday, December 15, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm.

This inaugural event is expected to draw families and individuals of all ages to celebrate the Jewish festival in a joyful and inclusive atmosphere.

The celebration, organized in partnership with the Sound Beach Volunteer Fire Department and the Greenwich Fire Department, aims to create a memorable experience that blends tradition, entertainment, and community spirit.

“We’re excited to bring this extraordinary event to Old Greenwich,” Rabbi Boruch Ceitlin said in a release. “It’s an opportunity to share the light and message of Chanukah, bring people together, and celebrate the rich traditions that unite us in this warm and friendly neighborhood.”

The centerpiece of the event will be the live building of the OG Menorah, a hands-on activity inviting attendees to participate in constructing this iconic symbol of Chanukah.

In addition to the menorah-building experience, highlights include: Freshly Baked Pizza: On-site kosher pizza by Napoletana, a local kosher dairy restaurant. Babka Station: by Greenwich & Delaney, a local renowned kosher deli and restaurant. Interactive Entertainment: A live game show hosted by Hollyrock, designed to engage audiences of all ages. Children’s Activities: Featuring rides, crafts, and other kid-friendly fun. Seasonal Food and Drinks: A selection of treats and hot beverages to warm up the winter afternoon.

“This celebration is truly for everyone—young and old, locals and visitors,” the organizers added.

The pre-Chanukah celebration also helps families prepare for the holiday, which begins on December 25, offering the chance to stock up on essentials and festive items

The excitement doesn’t end there. On the first night of Chanukah, Jewish Riverside Old Greenwich will host a Menorah Car Parade, departing from the Old Greenwich Fire Station. The parade will travel through town, culminating with a menorah lighting ceremony on Greenwich Avenue, bringing light and joy to the entire wider community.

This historic initiative, supported by First Selectman Fred Camillo, reflects Jewish Riverside Old Greenwich mission to foster community connections and celebrate Jewish traditions in Riverside and Old Greenwich neighborhoods.

The public is invited to join the festivities on Sunday, December 15.
