This weekend is Memorial Day Weekend. It is a time to relax, fire up the barbeque, and to congregate with family and friends. It is also a time to remember, to reflect, and to pay that rational homage to those who have served in defense of the Republic and have laid down their life for the cause. It is to memorialize them and their sacrifice.
Greenwich has a long and rich tradition of sending its own to serve and fight in the Nation’s wars – and so – as we memorialize all the fallen soldiers of every war, in Greenwich this weekend, let us reflect upon the names of those who from our town – without hesitation – heard, ran to, and answered the call of the Goddess of Liberty and Uncle Sam, and paid the ultimate sacrifice. One of the best ways to celebrate Memorial Day and every day, is to be a citizen worthy of that sacrifice.
