Greenwich Schedules Scaled back Veterans Day Events on Nov 11

Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov 11. This year, due to Covid-19, the Town has scaled back ceremonies.

There will be a brief ceremony on Wednesday at 11:00am at the Veterans Monument, 290 Greenwich Ave by the Havemeyer building/BOE offices.

The ceremony will be led by American Legion Post 29 and include members of the Byram Veterans Association, Cos Cob VFW Post 10112 and the Greenwich Police Dept Honor Guard.

Wreaths will be placed at of the Veterans Monument as well as the WWI monument in front of the former post office, now home to Restoration Hardware, at the corner of Greenwich Avenue and Arch Street.

The ceremony also will include Boy Scouts and Girls Scouts.

The annual Community Walk down Greenwich Ave and lunch at Redmen’s Hall are both cancelled this year due to Covid-19.

Also, on Veterans Day, at 6:00pm, there will be a services at Eugene Morlot Park next to the Dorothy Hamill Skating Rink.

Due to Covid-19, veterans and the public attending these events is asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
