Update, July 8, 2021. Per Parks & Rec: “As a result of ferry service disruption to Great Captain Island, we have extended service to Island Beach every 1/2 hour from 10:00 am – 7:00 pm on Fridays beginning July 9. In the event of inclement weather, call the Ferry Information Hotline : 203-618-7672.”
Update, June 29 2021:
The Islander II Ferry arrived at the shipyard and is awaiting repair. The Town has been working in conjunction with the Coast Guard and shipyard personnel to develop a schedule for the repair and inspection.
At this time, ferry service to Great Captain Island will not operate for the holiday weekend. We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
Original story, June 24, 2021: Effective immediately, ferry service to Great Captain Island has been suspended.
The Islander II Ferry has experienced a mechanical breakdown which requires US Coast Guard notification.
“We are working closely with the Coast Guard and the shipyard provider to determine a plan of action,” said a notice on the town website Thursday afternoon.
