I am 82 years old and reside at Agnes Morley. I spent almost my entire young, conscious life in Kazakhstan. There were no seas or rivers—only deserts and mountains.
When I came to America and settled in the town of Greenwich, I had one dream: to see the ocean and the Greenwich lighthouse.
In Greenwich, I was able to see both and take photographs, creating memories I will cherish forever.
On Friday, July 11, I had the opportunity to visit and spend the day on Great Captain Island.
I do not speak English very well.
When I arrived on the island, the staff asked me:
“Do you have any water?”
I replied, “No.”
Then they asked,
“Do you have anything to eat?”
Again, I replied, “No.”
They explained that the next boat would not arrive until 7:30 that evening. I had to remain on the island, where there was no place to buy food, and the temperature was nearly 100 degrees.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the staff on Great Captain Island. They gave me water and food, took wonderful care of me, and treated me with kindness and compassion. I am deeply grateful to each of them.
If it had not been for their care, I do not know how I would have managed until the boat arrived.
I kindly ask that these employees be recognized for their outstanding work. They are wonderful people and a tremendous asset to your organization.

Their generosity and compassion turned what could have been a very difficult day into one that reminded me of the kindness of strangers. I will never forget what they did for me.
