Two new trustees were recently elected to serve on the Greenwich Library Board at the annual meeting of the Friends of the Greenwich Library in May.
Bey-Shan C. Liu and Karen Free Royce will each serve three-year terms.
“We are delighted to welcome our talented new board members and look forward to working with them on the Library’s wonderful ongoing and exciting new initiatives,” said Peggy Edersheim Kalb, President of the Library Board of Trustees. “Each of our new board members brings the skills and enthusiasm that are key to a community organization, and we know they will make valuable contributions to the Library’s future.”
Bey-Shan C. Liu serves as the PTA President of the International School at Dundee and on the President’s Advisory Council at her alma mater, Bryn Mawr College. She also serves as a member of Pitch Your Peers and was previously part of the Junior League of Greenwich’s Strategic Planning Group. A native New Orleanian, she moved to Greenwich, her husband’s hometown, in 2012 and has been an active member of the community since, noting that the Library served as a vital anchor for her family then as it still does now.
“I forged some of my earliest connections here, sparking friendships during children’s storytimes that have lasted to this day,” Liu says. “I am honored to serve an institution that ensures knowledge remains accessible to all and continues to adapt and innovate to meet the needs of our diverse population.”
Karen Free Royce is no stranger to the Board – she previously served from 2012-2018, and has now been elected to another nonconsecutive term. She currently sits on the Board of Directors of both Neighbor to Neighbor and River House. Royce maintains an interest in Early Childhood Education, chairs the Tuition Assistance Committee at Children’s Day School, and serves on the Advisory Board of Children’s Day School. She is also active at Christ Church where she co- chairs the church’s environmental stewardship effort and works in Tanzania for the education of Maasai youth. Royce earned her degree from the University of California, Davis, and eventually retired as a Senior Vice President from the investment firm Oppenheimer & Co., Inc. “I am a lifelong learner and user of libraries. I love words, information, creativity, and community gathering places,” Royce says. “The Main Library and its branches are an amazing resource for Greenwich and I’m thrilled to serve as a trustee again.”
