Greenwich Democrats Mourn the Loss of Longtime DTC Member, Mary McNamee

Mary McNamee, a longtime volunteer for the Greenwich Democratic Town Committee, volunteer passed away this week at the age of 93.

McNamee, a lifelong Greenwich resident, retired after working as controller for the American Cyanamid Company.

She served on the Greenwich Representative Town Meeting for 36 years and also served many years of the Board of Assessment Appeals.

Of McNamee, former Selectman Drew Marzullo said, “No one – I mean no one had more institutional knowledge about Greenwich politics than Mary McNamee.”

“She knew everything. She was a close friend, a campaign advisor and someone who I loved dearly. She was kind, energetic and had a great sense of humor. What an amazing life.”

Laura Erickson, who served for many years on the RTM, BOE and BET – and is returning to the BET for another term – said she was glad to have known McNamee.

“She was a true light in our community. She was very involved with Democratic town politics for decades, serving in every role imaginable. People respected her and listened to what she had to say.”

Erickson added, “Most of all, she was a kind person who genuinely enjoyed helping others.”

Current DTC chair, Christina Downey said, “Mary dedicated her life to serving the Greenwich community, demonstrating unwavering commitment and leadership and it would be difficult to match her many years of service to both the town and the DTC, where she served as a leader in numerous capacities.”

She added, “Through her advocacy and volunteer work, Mary was a vital force in promoting civic responsibility and community spirit in Greenwich.  She leaves an impressive legacy and her mark on this town and we remember and honor her many years of service.”
