Green & Clean to Discontinue Holiday Lights on Greenwich Ave

Following a unanimous vote by the Greenwich Green & Clean Board of Directors, a decision was made to discontinue the challenging task of installing holiday lights on the trees in Downtown Greenwich to focus their energies and limited dollars on their primary mission.

For 32 years, Greenwich Green & Clean has cleaned, beautified and worked diligently to preserve the healthy environment of our town. They replace litter with beauty, implement recycling, encourage citizens and businesses to take personal responsibility for public space and educate all ages on what each of us can do improve the public quality of life.

Of course in November, the lampposts in the commercial sectors of Greenwich and Cos Cob will still be graced by baskets created by Greenwich Green & Clean volunteers.

These beautifully trimmed living greens add color and New England dignity to our town.

All volunteers are invited to join the fun of assembling well over 100 baskets in Sam Bridge’s greenhouses.

“We regret not providing light and cheer to our dark streets this winter,” Green & Clean said in a statement released Thursday afternoon. “However, we still have the lights and the electrical equipment. Therefore, we hope that another group will magically step up to seize the opportunity to continue the tradition by taking on the joy of lighting up Greenwich!”
